VISA DENIAL

I went for an interview on the 22 of April this year.My brother was graduating and needed a family member to be there, he sent an invitation letter.he is also a citizen. My concern was that despite the fact that I had all the necessary documents even my bank slip, employment letter where I work as a PA to an oil company but the pay isn't all that ( N 160 000),but run my own business on the side that pays better. The lady who interviewed me didn't even check them, she only asked where in the us I was going and if I was married and I said no. It really hurt me, did it matter that it was my first time of travelling? I want to ask if its OK to write an appeal letter to the consul or just re apply? And when filling the form on line there isn't any place to indicate other form of income which may serve as a boost. What do u all think?

  1. Yes to get a tourist visa, you have to prove that you have strong social, economic or financial ties to your country. Now since you are not married, do you have any property? Also you have to add the extra income you earn by the side. That would also prove that you have strong economic ties to Nigeria so you would come back to the country.

  3. You cannot appeal a visa denial at the United States Embassy. Their decision is final. You can only re-apply stating new information that was over looked during the initial interview. If refused twice within six months, then you will have to wait for a whole year to reapply. You need to prove strongly the following ties when reapplying to enable them consider your visa issuance. (1) Professional Ties. (2) Family Ties, and (3) Financial Ties. Best of Luck.

  4. The decision to grant or refuse Applicants Visas is not about the document they have with them. The document could only serve as support. The decision is based on the Oral Interview. It is when the Applicant is able to convince the Interviewing Officer, that documents are requested for backup.

There is no option for appeal if you were denied a Visa. Applicants are free to reapply at their convenience, at which time they may present additional evidence to overcome the previous refusal. Evidence may come in many forms, but when considered together, must be enough for the interviewing officer to conclude that the applicant's overall circumstances, including social, family, economic and other ties abroad, will compel him or her to leave the United States at the end of a temporary stay. “Ties” are the various aspects of life that bind one to one's place of residence, such as family relationships, employment and possessions. As each person’s situation is different, there is no single answer as to what constitutes adequate ties. We regret any inconvenience this decision may have caused you.
